Sara Tonelli will give a talk on the analysis of high-school final exams from a linguistic point of view, to study the evolution of neo-standard Italian and discuss how it has changed over time. The talk is part of the seminar series “Linguistic Conversations” held at the Department of Letters and Philosophy at the University of Trento.

Abstract:

We present a project aimed at studying the evolution of students’ writing skills in the last 15 years, analysing in particular the impact of neo-standard Italian. More than 2,500 essays have been transcribed and annotated by teachers according to 28 different linguistic traits. We present here the annotation process together with the first data analysis supported by NLP tools.
