We have contributed to the project “University Research funding, Patenting and Technological Impact” as subcontractor, in collaboration with the Department of Management of the University of Bologna. The project is funded by the Academic Research Program of the European Patent Office and is coordinated by University of Turin.
The project aims to investigate the impact of different public research funding schemes on innovation outputs and in the generation of patents. Our contribution consists in identifying the patents that are linked, directly or indirectly, to the ERC funding scheme (Fp7 and H2020).
We have created a database of scientific publications produced under ERC-grants, collecting them from ERC official channels, as well as from online publications-databases. Through a matching algorithm, we matched publications’ citations present in the patents from the European Database Office. We obtained thus an extended database that links ERC grants, its publications and linked patents.
Comparison to similar databases shows how our database of ERC publications, as well as the linked patents, is significantly more complete than previously available datasets.
Results of this collaboration are expected to be public soon.
